What Happened to the Branding Iron?

By

I don’t dine out much but this was a busy weekend and I didn’t feel like cooking yesterday. My husband and I were at Westfield Mall and decided to have dinner at Chili’s Restaurant. There was a long wait so we decided to go to The Branding Iron restaurant located at 99th & Southwest Highway in Oak Lawn that we visited once last year and were very happy with.

Since I grew up in Oak Lawn I remember many dining experiences at The Branding Iron which was located in the same building as a bowling alley on 95th Street many years ago. The Branding Iron was known for it’s ribs, doughnut holes on every table and do-it-yourself sundaes. The new Branding Iron kept the bowl of doughnut holes on each table but I really can’t remember if the bbq sauce was the same. It seemed a bit spicey to me and I can’t remember the original sauce being spicey. But I had ordered shrimp that were absolutely huge (must have been prawns) and wonderful. So I had my mind set on those shrimp again.

We arrived at our destination only to see a completely different restaurant where The Branding Iron had been located. The new place is called Cugini’s and features Italian dining. We really weren’t interested in giving it a try last night so if anyone else has a review please post it.

We ended up going to another tried and true restaurant, Nickoby’s on 103rd & Harlem. As usual, we were very pleased with our dinner.

But I’m still wondering what happened to the Branding Iron…
