Metra Train Ride from Chicago SuburbsFirst Metra train ride from Oak Lawn Illinois
ByI’ve been living in Oak Lawn for 4 years now (this time around, I grew up in Oak Lawn and am back).
Yesterday was the first time I actually used the Metra train stop in Oak Lawn to get downtown. My granddaughter, Elle and I were able to walk to the train station. I wasn’t sure if the station was open to purchase tickets and it wasn’t so I purchased them on the train.
Metra has added more stops to the Southwest Service during the weekdays so we had a nice choice of times. My son Chad & grandson Brett caught the train in Orland Park at 143rd & Southwest Highway so they were on the train before we boarded. The Oak Lawn station was closed and we boarded at 12:26 p.m. so I’m not sure when the station is actually open.
This line took us to Union Station. We took a walk with the kids downtown and had lunch next to the Chicago River. It was the grandkid’s first train ride.
Besides several stops in Orland Park, the other suburbs south of Oak Lawn with stops are Palos Park, Palos Heights, Worth and Chicago Ridge. Oak Lawn is the last suburban stop followed by Ashburn and Wrightwood in Chicago.
