I live vicariously through Martha Stewart. I love watching her shows and sometimes read her magazines although I’m nothing like her. I do like home decorating and carry it over in my real estate to help home sellers get their properties “staged to sell.”
On Friday, March 30th, Martha featured a quirky business and these kinds of businesses always interest me. It is a drive-thru for dog treats! And it’s not a new establishment. You can find the website here. There are two locations in Michigan at 2639 S. 3rd St. in Niles (269-683-7511) and one in Indiana at 15015 State Rd. 23, #B, Granger IN (574-277-7511).
What touched my heart, besides being a dog lover, was the fact that this little business started 17 years ago by one woman, Maggie Patterson, got a spot on a popular daytime tv show run by none other than Martha Stewart. There was film of Maggie and the drive through and Martha fed the homemade, preservative free treats to an adorable pug.
It is also interesting to see the small kiosk that Maggie started with in 1990 and how she has progressed. From what Martha mentioned, it seems like Maggie does very well. Maggie also created and sells a water bottle called Thirsty Pet® H20 To Go® that she sells on her website.
It’s just so nice to see a successful entrepreneur with such a niche business. Martha said she wants to take a trip to Michigan just to see the Doggie Drive Thru and I hope she does. Anyone who knows Martha knows her love of animals. I’ll be on the look-out the next time I’m in Indiana or Michigan. Unfortunately, my annual Michigan trip isn’t going to happen this year and I’m doing 3-4 other trips this year so maybe next year.
